Nothing beats a Storyboard when it comes to quickly imagining a shot before you begin production. A Storyboard breaks down a scene panel-by-panel and may include references to shot size, camera movement, and dialogue in the notes. They can be prepared in advance, or on the fly, as a way to communicate a visual concept using visual tools. You don’t have to be a great artist to create a storyboard either - stick figures can get your point across as well as anything!

Unlike its organizational cousin, the Shot List, Storyboards don’t necessarily need to be employed as a literal to-do list for every single scene during video production. Rather, they are meant to be used on an as-needed basis to plan out and convey particularly technical camera choreography. Like most pre-production tools, however, creating Storyboards can also save you time and money because they allow everyone on your team to get on the same page before pressing ‘record.’

We are currently offering the Storyboard Template in two versions of PDF formats: Landscape and Portrait (clicking will initiate a download). Print them at home and start sketching out your shots today!

If you’d like to see this resource in any other format, let us know down in the comments and we’ll do our best to accommodate!
